Home Laser Hair Removal
First we had the development of laser hair removal technology for spas and doctor’s offices and now we are seeing the emergence of the at-home laser hair removal system. There are several different brands coming out with home versions of the technology, but is this a wise investment of your money? Can you really get the same results at home that you would get from a professional laser hair removal technician?
There are a few reasons the at-home laser hair removal systems are getting attention today:
1. You can get rid of the hair from more sensitive and private areas of the body in your own home and by your own hand (or the hand of someone you are already intimate with).
2. The one-time investment in your own machine would be more affordable than the follow-up
appointments with a professional provider to rid hair of all desired body parts.
3. Lots of fun could be had with an at-home system. Anyone up for a hair removal party?
The catch is your at-home system has to actually work and deliver safe results in order to get any of these benefits. One day in the future it may be possible to purchase your own system at an affordable price and treat yourself to the same results you would get from a professional. Unfortunately, that just isn’t the case with the systems on the market today.
The problem with the at-home systems currently developed and on the market is that they are watered down versions of the laser equipment used by a professional. They don’t have the same features and power that professional equipment has because that would lead to a lot of at-home burns and injuries which would undoubtedly lead to lawsuits.
This is why professionals have to be trained to perform laser hair removal treatments. They know how to set up the equipment so the hair treatment is effective but the skin is not burned or damaged. They also know how to time follow-up appointments.
One other thing to consider: laser hair removal is not suitable for everyone. There are issues with some people’s skin that makes them unsuited to this procedure. When you see a professional they will do a consult first and let you know if there might be any problems or if your skin type doesn’t respond well to this treatment.
If everyone is just purchasing machines to do it on their own or having parties and treating everyone they know, what happens to those who aren’t well suited to the technology?
This is why real laser equipment is handled by professionals who have extensive training and experience delivering these treatments. They know how to choose their patients according to skin tone and other skin problems and they know how to adjust the equipment so every patient receives an effective yet safe treatment.
When everyone starts giving laser hair removal poolside or propped on the edge of the bathtub, a lot more mistakes and injuries are likely to result.
Still, the at-home laser equipment currently being sold is more likely to be ineffective than dangerous. They aren’t very powerful and don’t deliver the same quality of treatment that you would get from visiting a local provider for KPL hair removal.
